It all started when...

Australian based artist Rory Carter holds a Bachelor of visual communication, graphic arts and imaging arts from Deakin University. He has undertaken artist residencies in Yogyakarta (Indonesia), Paris, Berlin, and held numerous solo exhibitions, including at the Canberra Contemporary Art Space (CCAS). Carter works across multiple disciplines such as drawing, print-making, painting and sculpture. The basis for most work derives from observational studies/drawings from life, which aim to provide a sense of cultural and social commentary. Motifs are unpacked and explored across disciplines such as large-scale paintings, which allow play between figurative and abstract narratives. Informing all Carter’s work is his commitment to honesty and authenticity, wrangling subject and application to a state of resolution.
